Pictures and Words

Last weekend myself (Yvonne) and Dan delivered a Pictures and Words workshop as part of the 154 Exhibition. We wanted to introduce the group to our collaboration, "Pictures and Words" and share ways in which they could capture and process interesting images using mobile devices such as iPod Touchs, iPhones and iPads and use them as inspiration for creative writing. As a focus for the workshop we based all photography and creative writing around our next 154 Collective Show - Routes North and asked the group to work with us to capture images of Dan, in character, to be used as promotional and publicity material. This was quite a challenge as the group had to photograph Dan in Barnsley Town Centre, wearing his pyjamas and dressing gown and make sure they got the alarm clock in every shot! We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunny day and the group embraced the challenge and captured some really great shots. Here are some of them in action!

After a quick lunch break I showed the group how to process their images using a range of photography apps and Dan worked with them to create pieces of writing inspired by their images.

Here are some of their final images:

And here's a few I captured along the way...

By the end of the workshop the group had photographed, processed, printed and hung their images and postcard stories on washing lines ready for the photo shoot with Richard Hanson, for the Routes North Publicity shots. Thanks to everyone for all their hard work....myself and Dan had a super day and really enjoyed working with you all! Great work!

'Count to 154' from photography workshop

Part of my contribution to the 154 Collective's exhibition at the Cooper Gallery has been a miniature re-working of my ongoing 'Count' project, based around found numbers from my wanderings.

My aim was to find numbers from 1 to 154, which I didn't quite manage (one of the rules is that they've all got to be of different types of numbers - I can't just walk down the street and take a picture of each front door as was once suggested by someone slightly missing the point...). So as part of the photography workshop I ran a couple of weeks ago, one of the things we were looking out for was new numbers.  Here's what we found:

So, closer, but still a few to go...
